Hypoglycemia From Combination Pills

At bed, my glucose readings are 115-130. At least once a week or more, I awaken around 3:30 a.m. sweating, with my heart pounding. I test my glucose and usually it is around 50. What is causing this? I exercise 4 times a week, I watch my carbs, and I have lost 30 pounds. I take Glucovance® 5/500 and Actos®.

Hypoglycemia From the Wrong Insulin Dose

My mother has just been put on insulin. She is in her 60s. This is the first time I have seen her do this-- she is up in the middle of the night saying she feels weird and she is fading in and out and I don’t know what to do!

Hypoglycemia Unawareness

I never feel myself going low until I'm there so I need to remember to take a snack before I exercise. Why don't I get a warning? I used to but don't anymore and I'm insulin resistant too.

Lantus® Regimens

I have started taking Lantus once every morning. It has been a tremendous help. I take rapid-acting insulin before meals (3 times/day). If I miss a meal and omit that meal dose of insulin, my glucose is roughly 72 mg/dL. Would it be possible to adjust to taking Lantus only, with another type of insulin only once a day? My blood tests for everything--protein, cholesterol, kidney etc.-- are fine. I am searching for just a little distance with this disease. I don’t want it to be my best friend.

Lowering Morning Glucose

How can I lower my morning readings? All other times are usually within an acceptable range but the morning fastings are a little high—up to 150. I have type 2 diabetes and I am not on any medication.

Meter Interferences

I saw on a TV commercial that a particular glucose monitoring device was not affected by Tylenol®. I had never heard that Tylenol can affect glucose results. Also, is the FreeStyle® system affected by Tylenol?

No Coding?

I have read about your new meters that don't require coding. How can that be? I thought with your FreeStyle Flash® meter, for example, that you needed to always match the code in the meter with the code on the vial of strips or it wouldn't be accurate.

Peritoneal Dialysis and Interference From Extraneal

My daughter’s doctor wants to put her on a peritoneal dialysis solution called Extraneal®. When I called customer service, I was told that there would be interference which would cause the FreeStyle® meter to read falsely high. Would you please elaborate?
